Dr. Baliga was born in Bantwal, Karnataka, India. He obtained his M.B.B.S. degree from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal/Mangalore. Following that he studied post graduate medicine at the same institute and obtained his initial post graduate degree in Internal Medicine. Soon after that he was appointed Chief Physician at Alva’s health center, Moodbidri, India. He was instrumental in establishing quality medical care in a rural setting. His most famous achievement was in establishing a state-of-the-art snake bite center, which resulted in almost 100 percent survival rate in persons bitten by Cobras.
Following that he travelled overseas to United Kingdom in search of higher education and worked in the NHS system. In 1993 he realized his life- long ambition of becoming Member of Royal College of Physicians of London, M.R.C.P (U.K). He was registrar at the prestigious regional rotation in Endocrinology and Geriatrics at Arrowe park Hospital, Wirral and Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
He moved to United States in 1995 and Joined as a Fellow in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at University of Arkansas for Medical sciences at Little Rock, Arkansas.
In 2001, he was appointed as the Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone diseases and the division of aging at The Mount Sinai School of medicine, in Manhattan, New York. Soon after joining Mount Sinai he was promoted as the Director of the diabetes program at the same institute. He was the Chief of Endocrinology section at North General Hospital, Bronx, New York. His research interest was mostly focused on Advanced Glycation End products, Endothelial dysfunction, Oxidative stress and Cardio-vascular out comes in diabetic population. Coincidentally, his research activity also included Alzheimer’s disease prevention and the working hypothesis was Alzheimer’s disease is nothing but intracranial diabetes.
He moved to Columbus, Georgia in 2005 and soon established East Alabama Endocrinology P.C, serving Columbus, GA and Opelika/Auburn, AL. He has satellite offices in LaGrange, GA and Athens, GA also. He is passionate about bringing the latest technological advances to the local community. Currently his focus is on Remote Patient Monitoring and Chronic Care Management. He is the leading physician with the greatest number of patients enrolled in remote patient monitoring in the entire USA. He has large number of patients on sensors and sensor augmented insulin pumps.
